POKOTABI / Tōdaimon
東大門
Located along Jikkenbashi-dori a short walk from Oshiage Station, Tōdaimon serves classic yakiniku—from sweet-sauced short ribs and offal to well-salted beef tongue—alongside fresh makgeolli and downtown Tokyo hospitality.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Plates of glossy, well-marinated meat arrive amidst savory clouds of smoke. Situated along Jikkenbashi-dori close to Oshiage Station, Tōdaimon is a beloved shitamachi neighborhood restaurant that delivers reliable, deeply satisfying yakiniku without any pretense.
For a lively start, the salted tongue and scallion tongue seasoned with just the right amount of salt are essential. Fresh off the wire grill, each bite has an appetizing savory bite that makes short work of a bowl of white rice. The sweet, rich house sauce coats cuts like standard and prime kalbi, while the offal selections—such as horumon and prime mountain chain tripe—pair beautifully with a lightly tart sauce. Accompanied by a chilled draft beer or a refreshing glass of unpasteurized makgeolli, the rich meat flavors shine even brighter.
When taking a pause from the grill, regular diners often turn to the long-standing favorite daegu-tang soup or clean, palate-refreshing cold noodles. For a cool finish after the heat of the charcoal, ice cream flavors like vanilla and matcha offer a welcome, sweet conclusion.
Seating includes first-floor table arrangements alongside second-floor tatami seating where guests can stretch their legs, accommodating family dinners and group gatherings alike. Opening for dinner from 17:00 in the evening and taking reservations, it is a dependable pick for an animated evening meal.
